Surf Life Saving NSW members and initiatives will contest three categories at the upcoming NSW Community Sports Awards, while a beloved Northern Beaches club legend will be recognised with a Distinguished Long Service Award.

Merewether SLSC’s Rachel Soars is a finalist in the Community Official of the Year category, Sandra Slattery will represent the Mid North Coast and Tacking Point SLSC in the Community Sport Administrator of the Year category, and Ocean Beach SLSC’s highly successful blackspot program, Taking it to the Beach was named a finalist in the Innovation of the Year category.

Meanwhile, Queenscliff SLSC, SNB Branch and SLSNSW Life Member, Barry Antella OAM – a legend within the surf sports community and a passionate volunteer – will receive a small token of appreciation for his decades of dedication when he receives the Distinguished Long Service Award.

All three major finalists were winners of the same category at the 2023 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence, and present strong cases to the judges ahead of the announcement of the winners in just under a month’s time.

The awards will be presented on Wednesday 19 June at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta, recognising outstanding achievements and contributions to community sport in NSW – largely carried out by a volunteer workforce.
