At approximately 11.23am on Tuesday 18 May the Surf Life Saving NSW State Operations Centre was advised by NSW Police and Ambulance of a shark attack at Tuncurry Beach north of Forster.   


It was reported a man in his 50’s had suffered lacerations to his upper right leg after being attacked by a shark whilst surfing with three friends.



The group was able to paddle the man to shore before commencing first aid and CPR with the assistance of members of the public.



The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter as well as Surf Life Saving Lower North Coast Callout Team, Duty Officer Brian Wilcox, RWC (jetski) and Drone were tasked to the incident to assist authorities and the NSW DPI.



Unfortunately, the man was declared deceased at the scene by paramedics at 12.30pm.



Surf Life Saving NSW has been advised that all beaches from Black Head to Burgess Beach including Tuncurry, Forster and One Mile Beach have been closed for 24 hours.
