Action aplenty across six zones at Queenscliff beach saw some athletes win medals and others earn their chance to become Surf Life Saving NSW State Champions in the Sunday finals package.
Another stunning day met competitors at the 2024 NSW Surf Life Saving Age Championships, proudly presented by Your local club on 9 March – the third of four days of competition. While most races ran through to semis with the final across multiple age groups to be held tomorrow, beach and Surf Teams (swim) athletes competed for medals.
Rory Muldowney was among the gold medal winners for South Maroubra SLSC, picking his up in the U14 Male Beach Sprint and then backing it up again with teammates Tom Maxwell, Ryan McNamara, and Dominic Smith in the U14 Male Beach Relay. His third medal came alongside NSW Interstate sprint champion, Marli Mayne, among others, in the U14 Mixed Relay.
The Sydney club’s strength on the beach was in full show on the day, as they rocketed up the Overall Point Score Leaderboard and finished the day in third place, making a big push to overthrow North Bondi SLSC as champions.
Coogee SLSC, too, has been silently working its way up the leaderboard and currently sits in second, having earned one gold medal less (12) than North Bondi.
Marnie Laurence was among those to add a gold on Saturday, doing so in the U12 Female Beach Sprint. Her U12 Mixed team, including Molly Hoppe, Jack Baker Sedgman, and Jackson MacAskill was also successful.
Olivia Kelly from Woolgoolga SLSC picked up a well-earned medal in the U13 Female Beach Sprint.
Among the shock results of the day was the dethroning of Jada Christie from Elouera SLSC – the previous U9 and U10 Female Beach Sprint champion – who this year was forced to settle for second behind Lennox Head-Alstonville SLSC’s Harley Dilger.
In the water, The Lakes SLSC picked up an U12 Female Surf Teams win on the back of strong efforts from Gemma Barry, Zaylee Kwasnik, Stella O’Brien, and Piper-Jade Wardrop. Coogee also picked up gold in the U11 Female Surf Teams.
The 2024 NSW Surf Life Saving Age Championships, proudly presented by Your local club finishes tomorrow with a finals package set to be streamed live on Facebook, YouTube and Kayo Sports.
