Central Coast athletes have shone brightest on the national stage at the 2024 Australian Pool Rescue Championships, securing World and Australian Meet Records over three days of competition at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
Troy Racklyeft and Paul Lemmon from Terrigal SLSC both set Manikin Carry Australian records on Saturday 3 August and Sunday 4 August, respectively, with the former’s 35.69 coming in the 45-49 Male Manikin Carry and Lemmon’s 1:00.52 notched up in the 55-59 Male Manikin Carry with Fins.
Meanwhile, Dan Kingsley of Shelly Beach SLSC – several weeks after breaking the World Record for the 45-49 Male Manikin Tow with Fins at the State Championships – grabbed an Australian Record for his efforts in the 45-49 Male Manikin Carry with Fins with a time of 53.25.
On the topic of World Records, Lemmon managed to etch his name in the history books in the Male Masters 200m Super Lifesaver – 2:34.40 the new time to beat in that category.
Bondi SBLSC was the best of the NSW clubs on the Overall Point Score, managing second place in the Masters category. Bulli SLSC was the best of the state representatives in the Opens, finishing in a tie for 10th.
In the Interstate competition held earlier in the event, NSW came second behind Queensland and ahead of South Australia.
Following the end of competition, the 2025 and 2026 Australian Pool Rescue Championships were announced to be heading to the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide. They will take place from 7-10 August 2025, and 6-9 August 2026.
