In the September edition, we congratulate the finalists and award recipients from the 2021 SLSNSW Awards of Excellence, announce the expansion of our UAV program in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries and celebrate the start of the new patrol season by welcoming our surf lifesavers back to the beach.
In the 12 months from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021, a total of 88 lives were lost on the NSW coastline with 45 of those classified as coastal drownings. This is above the average of 42 drowning deaths annually.
In the June ’21 edition of SurfLIFE, we feature the award winning rescue of five people during the NSW flood emergency in March, the significant funding announcement from the NSW Government that will help keep surf clubs rescue ready and a new partnership for the Australian UAV Service that aims to get more girls involved in engineering and technology.
In the April ’21 SurfLIFE edition we feature the outstanding commitment of our Surf Life Saving volunteers who stepped up to assist their communities during the recent flood emergency, the launch of an innovative learn to swim program targeting our diverse communities, the award-winning joint rescue that saved the lives of two people at Wanda Beach and the new Rescue Water Craft Women’s Development Program.
