Since 1994 our enthusiastic and interactive volunteer lifesavers have been visiting schools in rural and remote areas of NSW to educate primary aged students about beach and water safety. So far we have delivered our message to over 296,000 students.

It is currently a Surf Life Saving NSW delivery supported by the NSW Government and ClubsNSW, with Ingenia Holiday Parks acting as the Naming Rights Partner.

In 2023, Beach to Bush celebrated 30 years of surf safety.

What will the students learn?

Our 45 minute presentations focus on beach and inland water safety. Students will learn about general beach safety, sun safety, rips and waves, sea creatures, basic first aid, rescues and getting help from a lifeguard. We’ll also have a curriculum aligned guide against all content for this program available for teachers.

Children from regional and rural parts of NSW are often at higher risk than those from coastal locations because they are less familiar with the beach and unaware of potential surf dangers.

The key aquatic safety messages from the program can also be applied to rivers, dams, pools and other inland waterways.

Thank you for teaching us about water safety. I learnt that it is very important to stay inside the flags, stay calm, put your hand straight up. I learnt so much because of you sharing all your information.
