Media & Communications Coordinator

This role is dynamic, fast-paced and requires someone who knows what the media wants and can deliver!

The role will provide media and communications services, support and advice across the organisation, including the development of content for internal and external communications such as websites, publications, social media, speeches and media releases.

Responsibilities include
  • Handle media enquiries, coordinate responses and collate information for media;
  • Engage with and coordinate volunteers in developing and dealing with responses to incidents, activities and events;
  • Act as an SLSNSW spokesperson if required;
  • Participate in an after-hours media phone roster;
  • Lead on researching and writing media releases and stories, including sourcing talent and conducting interviews;
  • Prepare and contribute written material for key publications including the Annual Report, newsletters, website, reports;
  • Work closely with other portfolios to maximise media opportunities.
About You

This role will suit a confident, hands-on media and communications professional capable of cultivating productive working relationships and presenting messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner for a range of audiences, media and channels.

You will ideally have a good understanding of how community/sporting organisations or emergency services operate and have some understanding of government processes.

Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism and/or solid work experience; 
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to produce a large volume of content quickly for online, print and social media;
  • Established network of media contacts with proven ability in gaining positive media coverage;
  • Ability to represent the organisation and act as a spokesperson if required;
  • Flexible approach to work hours – critical is your willingness and availability to work some weekends/out of hours and at events. Time in lieu will be offered in compensation.

Surf Life Saving NSW is the state’s primary water safety and rescue organisation and one of the largest volunteer movements in the country. We support more than 76,000 members in 129 clubs to serve the community through the provision of beach patrol services, coastal emergency response, training and education, sports and junior development.
