This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a highly respected and iconic Australian organisation.

With over 30 years of experience the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) NSW is one of the largest providers of lifeguard services in the Southern Hemisphere. Currently, our network provides services to over 90 individual locations, 15 local government authorities, 1 resort, 2 national parks, and with ongoing expansion we employ seasonally in excess of 375 lifeguards each year.

The ALS NSW is a subsidiary of Surf Life Saving NSW and we exist to uphold the core principles and values of Surf Life Saving in this commercially competitive market. The operations of the ALS support and contribute to lifesaving activities across NSW.

Essential skills required
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related field (e.g. Sports Administration, Business Administration & Public Safety)
  • Strong people management and leadership skills
  • Well-developed analytical skills; a conceptual approach to planning, and the ability to make sound judgments
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills and a proven ability in determining priorities, coordinating activities and meeting deadlines without supervision
  • Proven ability to control and administer budgets and allocated financial resources including an ability to investigate, interpret and evaluate such information
  • Experience and technical knowledge of lifeguarding or similar public safety roles
  • Well-developed oral and written communications skills (including presentation and report writing) and the ability to communicate to stakeholders at any level
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Able to travel intra-state when required
  • Motor Vehicle Licence required
  • A demonstrated commitment and working knowledge of ethical practices, WHS, EEO and anti-discrimination
  • High-level computer skills including the full suite of Microsoft Office programs and database management    
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and Public Holidays.
Desirable skills and knowledge
  • Relevant SLSA Awards including (current) Bronze Medallion, Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate, Provide First Aid, Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue and Silver Medallion Beach Management
  • Experience in the negotiation of contracts
  • Working knowledge of the Work Health & Safety Act as they relate to this position
  • Working knowledge of the Local Government Act 1993 and local laws, relating to this position
  • An understanding of surf lifesaving and Lifeguard procedures, practices and policies.
