Youth Development and Support Officer

In this role you will be reporting to the Membership Manager, supporting membership growth within Surf Life Saving NSW by delivering projects and activities designed to improve the junior and youth experience within the organisation, and to engage parents in local volunteering activities.

Surf Life Saving NSW is the state’s primary water safety and rescue organisation and one of the largest volunteer movements in the country. We support more than 76,000 members in 129 clubs to serve the community through the provision of beach patrol services, coastal emergency response, training and education, sports and junior development.

SLSNSW’s Membership Team works to support our membership base – from the youngest nipper through to our most passionate lifesavers. Roles within this team ensure the organisation is well-positioned to deliver its strategic objectives relating to the recruitment, induction, recognition, retention, and safeguarding of members throughout the state. 

Some of the duties will include
  • Identify, develop and maintain resources to assist Clubs and Branches with the delivery of junior, youth and parent engagement programs
  • Coordinate the delivery of SLSNSW youth development programs, including facilitator selection, program design and event planning ensuring that they meet defined objectives of SLSNSW
  • Build and develop relationships with Branches and members through regular communications with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the research, creation, delivery and review of policies and processes to support continuous improvement in relevant areas of Surf Life Saving.
  • Identify best practice engagement of junior and youth members within the not for profit sector and support the implementation of best practice within surf lifesaving. 
Essential experience required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Confidence and experienced in liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Previous experience working with volunteers and/or working with youth and juniors.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously yet successfully contribute to a cohesive team environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and multitask.
  • Ability to complete projects on time, to scope and within budget. 
  • Professional manner and presentation.
  • Sound computer skills particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Current driver’s license as some travel within NSW may be required.
  • Flexible attitude to work, including some evening and weekend work.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • An understanding of Surf Life Saving.
  • An understanding of the volunteer lifecycle and volunteer experience. 
  • Experience working in a similar role/organisation.
