Lifesaving Operations Coordinator

The purpose of this role is to assist in the coordination and provision of lifesaving operations, programs and resources in support of the Surf Life Saving NSW Strategic Plan.

Surf Life Saving NSW is the state’s primary water safety and rescue organisation and one of the largest volunteer movements in the country. We support more than 77,000 members in 129 clubs to serve the community through the provision of beach patrol services, coastal emergency response, training and education, sports and junior development.

This role will focus on continuous improvement of lifesaving operations to ensure SLSNSW has the capacity and capability to deliver and to protect lives.

Reporting to the Lifesaving Manager, you will have the opportunity to use your excellent communication, project management and administration skills to support the success of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and administer the Lifesaving Improvement Program for lifesaving Clubs and Services

  • Develop and maintain resources and collateral and ensure continuous improvement of lifesaving patrols
  • Provide guidance to Branches to administer the program and record Patrol Improvement Notices.

Incident Investigations

  • Document, administer, review and report on maritime incidents, investigations and member injuries
  • Liaise and manage relationships with external agency contacts where required.

Information and Service Agreement Management

  • Coordinate the review/ development of SLSNSW Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)/ Patrol Operations Manuals (POM’s) as needed
  • Develop and Maintain lifesaving operations procedures & Patrol Captain Guides
  • Maintain online E-copy collateral, documents and manuals and circulate circulars and memos for various programs
  • Coordinate the review of Lifesaving Service Agreements and support clubs/ branches in determining service levels.

Research and Development and Project Management

  • Harness innovation throughout lifesaving operations
  • Identify and investigate gear and equipment to ensure continual improvement of lifesaving and community safety
  • Conduct trials of equipment in consultation with stakeholders and contribute to national reviews and discussions on lifesaving gear and equipment
  • Coordinate and administer Lifesaving projects that align to the Strategic Plan.
Essential Skills Required
  • Administration experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge & experience of Surf Lifesaving operations particularly gear and equipment would be valuable
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally communicate with various groups both internal and external to the organisation
  • Sound computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proven ability to work autonomously yet successfully contribute to a cohesive team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to organise work, balance priorities and complete allocated tasks within set timeframes
  • Ability to make decisions regarding administration systems and procedures
  • Must possess a current Australian Driver’s License
  • Flexible attitude to work, including occasional weekend work.
