We are currently seeking a professional individual with great communication skills and knowledge of Emergency Response Systems to join a highly motivated team in keeping our NSW coastline safe for swimmers, surfers, boaters and rock fisherman.

Surf Life Saving NSW is the state’s primary water safety and rescue organisation and one of the largest volunteer movements in the country. We support more than 75,000 members in 129 clubs to serve the community through the provision of beach patrol services, coastal emergency response, training and education, sports and junior development.

Based at the State Operations Centre (SOC), this is an exciting opportunity to provide communication, control, coordination and liaison support to all volunteer and paid lifesaving services in NSW.

Located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches at our State Offices in Belrose, this role operates on a 7 day fortnight roster. As part of a professional team, the Duty Operations Officer oversees all interaction with other Emergency Services as well as communication and coordination for all lifesaving assets.  Protecting our members and the general public in the coastal environment, the SOC functions 7 days a week from 7:00 am to 7.00 pm (at peak times). At busier times and on weekends, your leadership skills will be required to provide guidance and oversight to a small group of dedicated and professional radio operators.

Essential Experience Required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate at various levels, often in stressful situations with volunteers and Emergency Services personnel.
  • Radio operations skills, ideally in an Emergency or Support Services environment.
  • Experience in Workforce management software, ideally Computer aided Dispatch (CAD) Systems
  • Exposure to the Surf Life Saving movement, ideally as an active member.
  • Proficient computer skills - particularly the internet and web-based databases.
  • Attention to detail and great work ethic.

Reporting to the Duty Operations Coordinator, the successful candidate will work with an experienced Duty Operations Officer and have the oportunity to work independently and effectively as part of an operational team. The right person for this role will have a flexible approach to working hours and can be rostered both weekdays and weekends.
